If Lemmy became popular, what would prevent any three-letter agency from opening a server to get all the user data?
What makes you think they haven’t already?

Can’t kill what is already dead.
The communities are all but gone.
The signal to noise ratio is the worst it’s ever been.
Most subs are barely moderated. Actual mod involvement (as opposed to Automod) is low.
Reddit now openly collects and sells user data.
The Reddit we knew is dead and gone.
First time I was prompted for a username, I happened to have a Roadkill Cafe poster on my wall. Couldn’t find anything better in my room unless I was going to use “LampBookDumbassCat”
My guess will be hibernation file and swap. If any of those had suspend to disk enabled, the hibernation file will be the same size as installed Ram… which can take up a good percentage of that used space. I have a pretty bloated xUbuntu install on my system right now and it’s sitting at 10.6GB. Including swap and /home, but no hibernation file.
Sadly, the brainwashing has been so effective that those who buy it never noticed that those gaslighting people into believing that no government system (eg, single payer) could ever work are the ones (Republicans) doing their best to ensure that government remains as broken as possible.
More people believe that our system is fucked than those who think this kind of system is normal.
We’re just faced with so many hurdles, gerrymandering, red states that exist only because of minority representation have more power over larger population areas (districts by size and not population, electoral college) … The majority of the country is merely surviving and the apathy sets in. I remind people that voting fascists out is the only way things are going to change and often the response is “Well, I tried that once and it didn’t work.” So they stop showing up to vote. Or they buy into the ‘both sides’ BS and post lame memes on Facebook and Reddit.
A lot of us really are painfully aware of how fucked it is.
I doubt it’s because it’s a competing service and it’s more likely because it’s a .io TLD… which is notorious for being used by phishers, spammers, and scammers unfortunately.
next week I’m finally going to get an AMD card and get rid of nvidia for good!
Replaced my 1080Ti with a 6700 XT when it was on sale. Couldn’t be happier. All of my wake from suspend issues disappeared.
Still using the same garbage nVidia drivers in PopOS as you would with any other distro.
My tub came with a clicker stopper.
First thing I did was replace it with one of these: https://i.imgur.com/DBEGZsR.jpeg
Total cost: $3.99
Works better, too.
In hindsight…
How it was all reported in the media, commented on… was pretty fucking gross. Especially since the kid who made the allegations admitted to lying.
Nothing was held back on for the court of public opinion. Police statements amounted to “We found creepy dolls that only can be used for grooming…” “He had [this] because [he’s definitely that]…” Later on the same police were caught giving adult magazines from the raid to one of the kids they claimed Michael molested… several months AFTER the raid… and then bagged the magazine for fingerprints. The way everything was handled, even if generously… we could admit that Michael was a bit of a kooky freak… the way the raid, reporting on evidence gathering (and apparent manufacturing of it) and prosecution was handled, that part of it seemed straight up corrupt.
There was always a tinge of ick about it all.
At best, Michael was a deeply damaged person who did whatever he could to cope with the loss of his childhood and… we’ll never know what truly happened at the Ranch.
“evidence found at neverland ranch” turns up a lot of results, admittedly, with far too much commentary and speculation describing “must have been used for…” rather than what may actually have been the case.
For first party stuff, Nintendo launches finished games
This wasn’t true for several Nintendo games. Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing and Zelda:Tears all required day one downloads.
Unfortunately there is a fair number of games with a physical release that require downloads to be playable as they are not complete on the cartridge.
Not always true: Not all physical copies contain full copies of the game and will require downloads before the game can be played.
Animal Crossing being a prime example. Mario Kart 8 requires 4.4 GIGABYTES to be downloaded before the game is playable. There have also been cart revisions where earlier versions of the game were complete on the cart… and newer versions of a cart were partial and required downloads as a cost saving measure.

Then don’t remove snaps and you don’t have to mess with anything out of the box.
