Can anyone recommend a set of flip flops that are durable and last a long time? I had another cheap pair break the other day, and I’m looking for something more durable.
Im going to suggest an alternative. Just get some crocs. They are light and airy, can handle water which all drains out the holes, easy to clean as you can just hose them off, pretty cheap given that they will last for years. You want the original clog type though. None of the fancy new stuff.
I can’t bring myself to wear them. I’m usually function over form, but I just can’t.
understandable but once you wear a celery stalk like a necklace all day. nothing phases ya.
Like on a chain or wrapped around your neck? Does it ward off vampires like garlic or were you trying to sneak a snack into a movie?
its a joke about one of those kids books on growing up that was popular when I was young. Which was a looooooooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggggg time ago.
Wasn’t it a piece of broccoli??
To tell the truth. Im not sure. I remember it as celery stalk but I mean they are both green vegetables I was not wild about eating as a kid. It could have totally been broccoli.
You both have valid points. This kind of civility and open-mindedness is fantastic, but it’s not going to make a croc less ugly. A croc is all the bad shoes ever made, rolled into one and dipped into the powdered sugar of despair.
Can’t argue that they aren’t ugly but im the kind of guy that is utility and function are all that matter. Much to my wifes chagrin. I have a black pair I call my bussiness crocs for the office.
Crocs also have flip flops. Just buy them and thank me later 😉
Did you hear the Idiocracy anecdote? The costume designer had to find some shoes that absolutely nobody would ever wear and it was the early 2000s so there was this brand new show on the market, so she brought back boxes of Crocs and was like: here. Here is the ugliest, dumbest shoe I could find.
I actually want a pair of the og model, but haven’t got them yet.
What i usually do is get a cheap pair of slippers, cut out the rubber thong, and use a length of Paracord to tie tarahumaru sandals. Cheap, comfortable as heeeeck, they look cool, and you can make and repair them yourselves. Life lasts on the durability of the sole you choose, I usually use softer soles so they conform to my feet better.
Called Huaraches - here’s how to tie them https://youtu.be/BwEusN9DCxw
I don’t blame you, I felt the same way for a long time. Then I tried on a pair and realized how damn comfortable they are.
Havaianas last me forever. Not the fancy, multiple-material ones. Just the simple, rubber, ‘Brazil’ ones that are like $20. I live in Florida and wear them with shorts and jeans, in the summer and winter. They’re indestructible.
I hate flip flops with a passion. They suck to walk in. They’re uncomfortable. The thong is annoying. They break easily. They’re slippery. They’re the worst.
BUT, I actually like these Okabashi sandals. They’re comfortable and very, very durable. I got them at CVS several years ago and they’re still holding up.
Otherwise, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Birkenstocks. I have this pair and they’re amazing. They’re definitely an investment, but they’re so durable and I can walk all day long in them. I’ve had them for a few years now and they just keep getting more comfortable.
I wear tevas, normal flip flops get uncomfortable around the thong part for me after a while especially when I have to walk around the city.
I have a pair of speedo flip flops that are six years old and worn regularly in summer during gardening, kayaking, etc. They don’t look brand new by any means but I imagine they will last a couple more years.
Edit: looks like I have the exsqueeze me style and they are discontinued now. :(
Reefs last a long time, but they make different grades.
Oofos have taken a beating and are still going strong after ~5 years. Are they truly BIFL? Maybe not. But pretty darn close.
Quicksilver men’s carver suede 3 point athletic sandal.
Those look like a good option, I’ll see if I can find some locally to try on. Thanks!
I’ve had a pair of flip flops from OluKai since 2017. Never had any other flip flop last so long or be so comfortable. https://olukai.com
I recently purchased my first pair of leather Olukai sandals and they have been incredible. I had Rainbows a long time ago, but these are way more comfy, didn’t even have a break in period.
Rainbows. Worn near daily for 10+ years and Im only starting to think I need a new pair.
My wife has had the same pair of rainbow flip flops since we met in 2010. She wore them basically every day for years but now we both wear Birkenstocks which are another good option.
Anything by Olukai. I’ve had both of my pairs for over 5 years. They look worn but still going strong.
Birkenstock Arizona Eva are considered good (and more generally all Birkenstock), you can have a look.
Okabashi sandals or slides. Made in the USA, Durable rubber with grippy texture on the vamp, so they stay on your feet without straps or Velcro. Comfy, even for those of us born with pancake feet.
