Only watched the first episode, enjoyed it, excellent acting from an excellent cast, decent ground work for the series. Alright action, lightsabre fights left me a little disappointed.

I honestly prefer that. The original trilogy had unfancy battles, but every swing seemed important. They all felt like they could be a killing blow and it made the fights exciting. The prequel fights are too fast. They became strobe light shows and it made them boring because there was nothing to follow.

As I see it, each opponent wields a saber according to their strength, style, and teaching. Several characters in the OT and those approaching or thereafter that timeline carry a light saber more like a heavy 2-handed sword. It was the style at the time, which is why I was wearing an onion on my belt.

the dart maul fight had an actual martial artist doing fancy moves even though quai gon jinn stood there like in the originals with obi

Seriously, watch the fight at the end of the Phantom Menace. It’s fun but it’s not good.

There’s a lot of times where Obi Wan and Qui Gon take turns attacking, and visibly waste time to avoid attacking simultaneously. There’s a bunch of times where they’re really obviously attacking Maul’s saber, not Maul. Attacks that are obviously out of distance. That sort of thing. Ray Park is a great, award winning martial artist, but Liam Neeson and MacGregor aren’t, and it really shows.

Compare it to the Maul vs Ahsoka fight at the end of Clone Wars. Being able to motion capture two great martial artists makes a big difference vs having to teach an actor fight choreography. It’s still flashy and has some silliness in it, but it looks much better.

How does it compare to the first season of the mandolorian or the last 3 episodes of obi-wan?

For me that’s a hard comparison, the last 3 eps of obiwan I found pretty awesome. Its a better start than obi I would say though. It feels different to mando, less like the og star wars, think there’s more in it off you’ve watched the rebels, all the Clone wars cartoons. Pacing is good… as you can tell I’m not much of a critic. But I’m thinkingI’m going to like it.

Yeah, I’m just deciding if I want to watch it or not, I almost tapped out of obi wan at the beginning, and couldn’t bring myself to watch more than the first episode of the latest mandolorian season. They have been missing lately, but I hope it’s good.

I liked the latest season of Mando it was a pretty good direction forward I feel. Ahsoka has kept up with that pretty well, but the first ep is definitely moving slowly on the wrong things. But episode 2 was really good for the direction

FWIW, it seems that the first episode of most of these SW shows are just trying to get things set up for the things they actually want to write. Mando, BoBF, and Andor seem to be the exception, where BoBF teetered off a bit and Andor stayed strong throughout.

I don’t disagree the shows have had some shortcomings, but overall I’ve actually enjoyed them quite a bit. I do wish they spent a little more time on making the first episodes feel “right” though, as that would help the reception overall quite a bit.

I loved Kenobi even though some people don’t, but I accept the silly sequence of little Force Leia running away from bounty hunter/mercs as just showing Leia’s force attunement. It’s silly but effective since it shows her cunning at a young age.

Interesting, I really enjoyed andor, but Mando really just didn’t do it. I never really liked that show much anyway, can’t wait to watch Ahsoka though! Kenobi was also great which gives me hope.

That’s too bad! S1 was the strongest for me but S2 and S3 have been enjoyable. If the space western style wasn’t selling it for you, they do move on from the motif a little after S1, but I wouldn’t push through it unless you’re interested in Mando and baby Yoda.

Personally what I’ve liked it for, aside from the western style, was how they were being subtle with the world building of the sequels. It’s much more effective just being around cloning facilities that we can assume made Snoke and Palpatines bodies than outright pointing and speaking on it and I was glad it wasn’t heavy handed to just try and “fix” missteps from the sequels.

Hmmm worse then Mando season 1. I wouldnt say its gotten as bad as the last 3 episodes of kenobi.

If mando season 1 is a 4 and kenobi is 2. So far this show being a 3/10 is qbout right
